Our clinic has been a part of the Yuma community for more than fourty years. We have shared in the lives of over 39,000 families. Below, is a brief introduction to each of the providers that make up our practice.
Jean M. Amon, MD, FAAP
I grew up in Yuma as the second oldest of eleven children. Family and children have always been very important to me. I always knew I wanted to have children of my own, but as I continued with my education, I knew I wanted a career working with them as well. I am a Yuma High Criminal, Arizona Western College Matador, and University of Arizona Wildcat. After graduating from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, I completed my Pediatric training at Phoenix Children's Hospital/Maricopa Medical Center Residency Program. My husband and I feel fortunate to have been able to return to the community that helped shape who we have become and to be able to raise our children here close to our families.
I feel it is a distinct privilege to be a pediatrician. Kids are fun! But more than that, I enjoy the opportunity to get to know parents and families and work together with them to ensure their children grow up happy and healthy. And I am right there in the trenches of parenthood with you! Nothing has taught me more about being a pediatrician than being a parent! My husband and I have been blessed with three pretty great kids and I continue to learn from them every day.
I know how important your children and your family are to you and what a special blessing we have as parents. I look forward to the opportunity to welcome you to the Yuma Pediatrics family and allow us to be a part of yours.
Dr. Daniel Crawford, Board Certified Pediatrician
Working with Yuma’s children is my calling. Born and raised here, I am a product of our local school system: Crane, Yuma High, Arizona Western College, Arizona State University, and University of Arizona College of Medicine. I finished pediatric training at the University Medical Center in Tucson. I returned home in July of 1980 and have been practicing at Yuma Pediatrics since. I have been blessed with many rich experiences following patients and families through multiple generations. I love pediatrics, the Yuma community and our children. With my wife Pattie, an educator, we’ve accepted the challenges of improving the welfare of our kids, while raising two of our own. I look forward to many more years in this endeavor and welcome any families interested in having their pediatric care at Yuma Peds.
Dr. Gowan Deckey, MD
I am a Yuma native; graduated from Crane School and Yuma High School, then from Claremont McKenna College in California and Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. I married my med-school sweetheart, George, and we moved back from the cold to Phoenix for a residency closer to my home. After completing my residency training at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in 1993, we returned to Yuma, with our new son for me to work at Yuma Pediatrics. We now have four children and I thoroughly enjoy raising them. As a Dr. Mom, I understand parents’ point of view and empathize with them. I adore all children and relish helping them as they grow and develop into healthy, fascinating people.
Maureen McLellan, PNP
I wanted to be a pediatric nurse throughout my childhood in Phoenix. I received my nursing degree at the University of Arizona. After working at the University Medical Center for several years, I wanted to be able to know my patients when they were healthy and watch them grow up. I went to the University of Colorado and received my Pediatric Nurse Practitioner degree. Since then I have worked in Tucson and Phoenix before joining Yuma Pediatrics in 1997. After 30+ years of practice, I still enjoy providing healthcare to children. When I am not working I like traveling, reading, baking and quilting.
Cynthia Sison, M.D.
I received my undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of the Philippines. I completed my pediatric residency at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and clinical fellowship in neonatal medicine at the University of California at Irvine Medical Center. I am board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. I am blessed to have been surrounded by people who nurtured my love of medicine, and by children who are to me, life’s tiny miracles.
Dr. Robert Cannell
My family has lived in Yuma since 1969, when the Navy sent me to MCAS, Yuma, as a General Medical Officer. I had grown up in Colorado, attended the Colorado School of Mines, and the University of colorado, graduating from medical school in 1967. I trained in Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver, the University of Washington and Children's Hospital in Seattle, and finished my residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
I started the practice which became Yuma Pediatrics in 1972. My particular interests are in children with complicated medical conditions and chronic disease, particularly bronchial asthma. I am Board Certified in Pediatrics, and have severed on the board of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics on two occasions.
I spent time away from our practice for several years, serving as the medical director of the school based health care program, a program for uninsured children held at clinics in our elementary schools throughout Yuma county, and pent 6 years in the Arizona Legislature, first in the House of Representatives, then in the Senate.
I have come out of retirement to back up the physicians at Yuma Pediatrics on vacations, and love practicing here. I respect parents and what they do very much, and love working with children. I have three grown children and eight grandchildren, spread from Seattle area to Tucson.
